RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is quickly becoming one of the hottest topics in the industry. The idea behind RFID is to eventually replace the conventional barcode, as this new technology promises to be scannable and accountable without a line-of-sight.

What does this mean for the Automotive Industry? It could have huge implications for Manufacturers, who have very large inventories to keep track of. The benefit of utilizing RFID technology is the time and cost savings of being able to identify all products in a warehouse from a centralized location.

I dont know if it will completley replace physical identification numbers in the car business, but it does have some use in other industries.

I simply don't see anything worng with a vin number or a stock tag.
If you want to locate the car, pull the keys and hit the panic button.
