A fire in the engine compartment while under way can mean big trouble to the driver if the fire is not contained. Many total loss fires are the result of the fire passing through the firewall. The Automotive Firewall Sleeve can be used in the firewall of competition vehicles as well as restorations. This is an IMCA approved system that will keep an engine fire out of the driver’s compartment. NASCAR approval is pending as of 08/24/06.
This mechanical Sleeve System is used to pass cables, wires and hoses through a firewall in an automobile. The complete system includes all hardware as well as the intumescent firestop putty used to seal the sleeve. This “Unique Putty” will chemically react to the heat of a fire and swell inside the system to seal it as the cable jackets and hoses burn, the firewall is sealed. The Sleeve will contain, control and direct this expansion. Available sizes are ½ inch, ¾ inch and 1 inch diameter sleeve systems. Part #’s are: AFS-1/2 - AFS-3/4 - AFS-1
The putty used in this System will seal the firewall from smoke and gases even during normal use. System will help keep exhaust, burning oil and other gases from entering the driver compartment under normal as well as race conditions.
Be sure to flush mount the system on a flat surface and support the items in the sleeve at each end to prevent dislodging the putty. Use a separate sleeve for cables, wires, fuel lines and oil lines. Each installed sleeve system must not be more than ½ full of cables, wires or hoses in the annular space. Pack the putty in from the engine side of the system. Carefully remove the putty to add or remove cables, wires or hoses. Take care to avoid contaminating the intumescent putty and use it to re-seal the sleeve.
We are now complete with R & D and have the blessings of both NASCAR (pending as of 08/24/06) and IMCA. I would like your input on the invention. Compare it to what you are currently doing to seal the firewalls in your car and let me know what you think. Samples are available upon request.
