AutoExecMag recently published an article offering a dozen tips for dealerships to put a "lock" on car theft. Very often, theft occurs during the week in broad daylight. If a dealership has a fairly large group of employees, it becomes easier for a thief to blend in.
Some exerpts:
Use a good key control system - it is not uncommon for a dealership to leave the keys inside of cars, or sitting very nearby.
Lock the padlock on the entry gate during the day - this prevents a potential thief from swapping the lock with one of their own.
Keep all uniforms secured - this prevents uniform theft.
