I came across this interesting article in the Detroit Free Press (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051208/BUSINESS01/512080540/1014). The article is based on a study that claims people who live within one mile of a church are 10% less likely to crash than other drivers. Alternatively, those within a mile of a restaurant are 30% more likely to get into an accident.

Is this a case of getting correlation mixed up with causation? Does anyone have any insight into why this might be the case (religion aside)?
