What's with American cars - why do the interior materials have to be so bad?? I see Japanese cars with nice interiors, and there's no reason the American manufacturers can't follow suit. Why can't they do something about this??

Agreed--but it's not only American cars! It's an issue of fit and finish, which is also sorely lacking in Nissans. For example, the interior of Nissan 350Zs feels cheap from the beginning and noticeably deteriorates to an even worse condition after just one year of regular use.
Manufacturers who have done a better job are Honda and BMW. Who else is doing a good job on this?

Kristi - good point, you're right! I think Toyota/Lexus vehicles have the best interiors I've seen. They're very well-built, and they seem to hold up with age. Why can't the American companies (and Nissan, etc for that matter) duplicate this?
