Is anybody planning to attend the Art Center Classic Car Show coming up this Sunday in Pasadena? If not, you might seriously reconsider because it is one of the premiere gatherings of classic cars and automotive designers that you will ever find.

This year’s show is recognizing Gordon Murray, who is the designer of the McLaren F1 (which is the fastest street car on record at 241 mph) and Mercedes SLR. This event also serves as a mini-reunion of Art Center graduates from their automotive design school from the last 50 years. Art Center College is the most prestigious school in automotive design. The fact that all of the major automotive manufacturers have design centers in Southern California is a testament to their impact on the industry.

The web site is located at http://www.artcenter.edu/carclassic/

Here is a write up on last year’s event: http://motortrend.com/autoshows/events/112_0408_artcenter/

See you out there and don't forget the sunscreen.

Couldn't agree more...it was a great day and I can't wait until next year. Gordon's presentation could have gone on for days and I would have been happy!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it. Anyone care to type up a brief recap?

Living on Southern CA definitely has its benefits if you enjoy cars!

I thought that some of you might enjoy these photos from this past weekend’s Art Center Car Classic.

I guess you folks aren't car show fans... This event had the head designers from almost every major car manufacturer in the world. Gordon Murray, Chris Bangle, Chip Foose, Freeman Thomas and many more.

Like walking among the Gods...

James:

I could not have said it better. I am sorry that I didn't get to meet you at the show.

Did you meet any of the designers? Did you have any impressions of any others (aside from Gordon Murray)? I missed his lecture because I was caught up outside letting some of the design students sit in the Viper and take pictures in it. It is wonderful to see the fire in the bellies of the young designers at Art Center. I can't wait to see the new designs that they come out with in the years to come.

I heard that Gordon is involved with tring to develop a economically price exotic car. Do you have any details on this? Is he still with McLaren or is he doing this somewhere else?

Personally, I thought that last year's show was better...

Gordon's presentation was excellent. New car? Think smart fortwo with the driving dynamics of an Elise and the emissions/economy of the Prius. Next up? Something along the lines of a Mustang-type car but with Murray's touch...

When is the next show you will attend? Pebble?

Man I wish I could go, but I don't live in California. Thank you for the pictures!
