Hi, my name is Jaime. I am now in my 40's (ugh!), have a lovely wife, two daughters, a granddaughter (she's beautiful) and a grandson (a genius, of course!). I've been in the automotive repair industry since 1979. In that time I have been a mechanic, technician, shop owner, automotive technologies instructor and much more.

I feel it's important to remember *why* I first got interested in repairing automobiles... I like to solve problems. The added bonus of fixing cars is the knowledge I am also helping a person (the owner). By questioning myself 'what if this were my mother's car?' while working on a customer's car, I maintain ambition to do the best job I can. I Hope all technicians subscribe to this attitude.

The part I liked most about repairing cars was the challenge of accurately and efficiently diagnosing the diverse problems which developed. Dealing with constantly changing technology afforded me the opportunity to avoid the boredom associated with repairs (the actual replacing of parts).

I said "liked" because now I work for Vetronix Corporation (five years & counting). I am a Factory Representative, my duties include sales and training. I work with auto repair shop owners & technicians, dealerships, schools & fleets. I assist those interested in performing high-tech, high quality vehicle diagnostics and repairs. What a satisfying and rewarding career!

What a great story, Jaime! Welcome to the forum!

I agree with you that there's a certain satisfaction associated with being able to fix an automobile, and to correctly diagnose a problem before beginning the repair job. I haven't done that professionally, but I know it's always exciting to do that with my own car.

I think your mindset of working on cars as if they were your mother's car is absolutely fantastic. I've had some bad luck with mechanics, and I know I'm not alone. If I could find one that treated my car (AND my wallet!) like their mother's, I would be very pleased. I applaud you for that work ethic!
